Twin/Hybrid Cards...... What Are They?
This term is attributed to two completely separate chip technologies residing on the one card. Data between the chips is therefore not shared; they act completely independently of each other. If you want to share data, see Dual interface/Combi cards which has this capability.
The most common hybrid/twin cards tend to be contactless smart cards with a separate contact chip embedded. In the production stage very simply a finished contactless card is taken and embedded with another chip without interfering with the antenna.
These cards are typically used in applications needing separate contact and contactless chip functions, but on the one card. It is also applicable when departments want to control the security of their own application and are not interested in sharing that data.
